Free Spring Activities to do with kids
Spring brings new colors, fresh air, and lots of chances for kids to explore the world around them. Here are a few fun and free ideas to try this spring.
Nature Color Hunt
Create a simple list of colors for kids to look for in nature, choosing shades like red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, brown, and black. As they explore, they can match each color to something they discover outdoors, turning an ordinary walk into a little treasure hunt.
Bring along a small bag so they can collect the items they find and look through their colorful ‘nature haul’ when they’re done.
Pressed Nature Bookmarks
Using the findings from your Nature Color Hunt, create pressed nature bookmarks! Choose from favorite leaves or petals, arrange them in between sheets of parchment paper, and press them inside a heavy book for a few days.
Once they are dry and flat, you can seal them in between strips of clear packing tape or laminate them to make sturdy bookmarks.
Farmer’s Market
Spring is when farmer’s markets come back to life, and they’re one of the easiest places to find free, kid‑friendly activities. Many markets offer more than produce, with kids able to sample seasonal fruits, listen to live music, join craft tables, or take part in vendor‑run scavenger hunts.
Rainy Day
When the weather keeps you indoors, simple crafts can save the day. Kids can make homemade playdough or slime, decorate paper crowns, paint with watercolors, or create collages from old magazines and scrap paper.
Obstacle Course
With a few cones, chalk lines, or items from around the yard, create stations to hop over, crawl under, or weave through. Your kids will love the challenge of trying new combinations, racing the clock, or making up their own rules.
Leaf Counting
Spring is the perfect time for a simple leaf hunt. As the trees start to fill out, leaves of every shape and shade become little treasures to find. Kids can search for different colors, compare textures, or try to match leaves to the trees they came from.
