Ogden — With tuition rates on the rise and safety a growing concern, it’s never too early to start preparing for college. On Thursday, May 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m., VisionBank will host a “College Prep Night” for high school students and their parents to get them ready for the next chapter.

While there will be valuable information for all high school students and parents considering post-secondary education, parents of high school juniors will particularly benefit from hearing a presentation on “Understanding the Financial Aid Process.” Presented by Troy Anderson, Student Success Advisor from the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN), this message is particularly well-timed as most college applications require a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the fall of the student’s senior hear of high school.

The FAFSA presentation is typically given in high schools all over the state, but there wasn’t one scheduled for Ogden High School. “The information presented [at these presentations] is too valuable to miss, so we wanted to make sure Ogden students and parents had a venue to hear it as well,” said Eve Lederhouse, Marketing & Communications Officer for VisionBank. “For students considering any kind of education after high school, the next step is a big one, so we want to help with that transition in any way we can,” Lederhouse said.

In addition to the FAFSA session, the event will include a fun presentation on safety and campus life from Community Outreach Specialist Anthony Greiter (Iowa State University Police Department), a brief talk on financial planning from GoodWealth Financial Partners, and an overview of scholarship opportunities and the application from Lederhouse. There will also be other resources available to pick up, and refreshments will be served to all attendees.

The college-ready event will take place at the VisionBank Ogden location at 217 West Mulberry. Attendees may come and go as needed. More details and an agenda are available at www.VisionBank.com.
