VisionBank, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity team up on a panel build.

April 15, 2013

VisionBank of Iowa is teaming up with the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity on May 18th to complete a panel build in the Grimes VisionBank office parking lot.

“VisionBank is proud to be a sponsor of such a great organization” said Senior Vice President, David Abram. “We, along with the businesses and citizens of Grimes, are excited to assist Greater Des Moines Habitat Humanity in working towards their goal of having every man, woman and child living in a decent, safe and affordable place to live.”

A panel build is a Habitat for Humanity event where a group of volunteers frame the interior and exterior walls of a Habitat home off-site to prepare for one of GDM Habitat’s 23 new construction houses in 2013.  Each panel build helps a hard-working low-income family achieve their dreams of homeownership while helping to break the cycle of poverty for the next generation.

"Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity is excited to bring our panel build program to the community of Grimes with the support of VisionBank. Panel builds assist in building community through teamwork, partnership, and a shared vision of breaking the cycle of poverty. Thank you to the volunteers that will help make the dream of homeownership a reality for a Polk County family," said Lance Henning, Executive Director of GDM Habitat.

VisionBank and GDM Habitat will need about 90 volunteers to complete the build. Individual volunteers and groups are welcome.  No experience is necessary and all training will be provided on site.

Beyond traditional construction volunteers, skilled volunteers, called Nail Captains, are needed to help small groups throughout the day.  Construction volunteers must be at least 16 years-old.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community while learning new skills and meeting new people” said Cara Gregory, Assistant Vice President. “We invite our friends and neighbors to help us live out VisionBank’s tagline to see what we can do for you and in this case ‘you’ is our community.”

About Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity:

Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity (GDM Habitat) is a Christian ministry that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Through GDM Habitat's homeownership program hard-working families apply for partnership based on three criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. At closing, families purchase their home through a 20-year, no-interest mortgage. In addition to creating homeownership GDM Habitat is focused on neighborhood revitalization through the Rock the Block® program. Rock the Block® assists residents with repair, maintenance and beautification of homes. To learn more, visit www.gdmhabitat.org.
