VisionBank, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity successfully complete panel build
May 24, 2013
GRIMES, IOWA (May 24, 2013) VisionBank Employees and citizens of Grimes donated time and skills to build a house for a local family on Saturday, May 18. The construction was done in the VisionBank parking lot in Grimes and is called a "Panel Build" by Habitat for Humanity. The purpose of a Panel Build is to construct all of the wall panels necessary to build an entire home. Each panel build helps a hard-working low-income family achieve their dreams of homeownership while helping to break the cycle of poverty for the next generation.
“Participating in one of GDM Habitat’s panel builds was a rewarding experience for all the volunteers involved” said Abram. “VisionBank is proud to support causes like Habitat and to be able to host such a great event.”
More than 40 volunteers pitched in to frame the interior and exterior walls of a Habitat home. Volunteers worked on the project from 7am to 3pm.
“Our staff at VisionBank and the citizens of Grimes are great about volunteering their time, and this was no exception” said Abram. “Our volunteers showed up ready to work hard and give back, and we also met new people and had a lot of fun.”
GDM Habitat's homeownership program helps hard-working families get into a home based on three criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. At closing, families purchase their home through a 20-year, no-interest mortgage.
